
Street Sense Organisation Swears In Board of Trustees

Street Sense Organisation (SSO), a non-governmental road safety advocacy organisation in Accra, has at a ceremony, sworn in its Board of Trustees. The Board is mandated to play an advisory role and counsel the Executive Council of the organisation in the performance of its functions.
Nana Osei-Bonsu (Esq), Registrar of the Ghana School of Law took the trustees through the oath of swearing-in. Members of the Board include Messrs Samson H. A. V. Oddoye; Patrick Chrapah; Dennis Adongo; Sasu Boamah; Mrs. Gloria Laryea; and DCOP D. Akrofi (Rtd). Others are Rev. George Nortey Odonkor; Dr. Justice Adotey Hoffman; Arc. Sonya N. D. Simpson; Madam Rita Bakar; and Mr. Effah Nyarko.
In his welcome address, Mr. Oswald Lavoe, Founder and Executive Chairman of SSO, said he was driven to establish the organisation following his involvement in an accident which nearly took his life. “After that fatal accident, I decided to set up an organisation that will promote continuous traffic education to help reduce road accidents in the country,” he said.
Mr. Lavoe stated further that the organisation seeks to be an effective partner on road safety issues by providing education, increasing awareness and empowering people to bring about sanity on the road. He outlined some objectives of the company as working with stakeholders toward the realisation of the United Nations Decade of Action on Road Safety; conducting research on pressing road safety-related issues; advising government through the National Road Safety Commission on policy directions and initiatives; assisting the Ghana Highway Authority to redeploy and install road signs and restore defective ones; and promoting volunteerism in all matters concerning road safety and sanitation.
Speaking on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Samson H. A. V. Oddoye said they were honoured to serve on the Board of an organisation that is aimed at preventing road accidents to safeguard lives and property.
He pledged that the Board would uphold the tenets of SSO, work together and bring their rich experiences and knowledge to bear on advancing the vision of the organisation.
