
Street Sense delegation on a visit to Baatsona Divisional Police Command calls on stakeholders

Street Sense Organisation (SSO), a non-governmental road safety advocacy organisation recognises stakeholders as important constituents and acknowledges their crucial role in the realisation of the organisation’s goals.
In an effort to strengthen working relationships with key stakeholders therefore, an SSO delegation has embarked on courtesy visits to some offices of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service. The MTTD is responsible for road safety and therefore a key stakeholder for the organisation.
The delegation led by Mr. James Owusu-Amoah, Director of Administration visited the Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the National Police Headquarters, Accra Central MTTD, Tudu, Amasaman Divisional MTTD, Baatsona Divisional MTTD, and the Eastern Regional Police MTTD.
The meetings were held to officially introduce SSO to these stakeholders and brief them on the organization’s vision, mission and objectives, as well as other general background information. The visits were also aimed at soliciting the support of the stakeholders to enhance the successful implementation of activities of SSO.
During the visit to the IGP at the National Police Headquarters in Accra, the Director General of MTTD, ASP Adu-Sei Sarpong who represented the IGP welcomed the establishment of SSO and lauded its vision.
ASP Sarpong said the issue of road safety was very crucial and needed the involvement of all and sundry. He therefore, pledged his department’s support to the organization, saying “this will help improve road safety in Ghana.”
Other officers present at the meeting were DSP Samuel Sasu Mensah, Staff Officer for the Director and Chief Inspector Simon Tenkuu, Director of P/R and Research.
At the Accra Central MTTD, Tudu, SSO’s delegation was received by its Commander ACP A. Fosu Ackaah and ASP Eric Agbenyega.
ACP Ackaah lauded Street Sense idea and promised his department’s support to promote road safety. He asked the orgnisation to implement effective strategies that will help reduce road accidents in Ghana.
The meeting with the Amasaman Divisional Police Commander took place at the Divisional Headquarters, Amasaman, Accra. The Divisional Commander C /Supt Cephas Kofie welcomed the Street Sense team and said his unit will collaborate with the organisation to ensure road safety where necessary.
C/Supt Kofie expressed worry about the increasing number of broken down towing trucks. This problem he said, hampered efforts to promptly tow broken down vehicles on the road. DSP Amoako Boansi and Mr. Obeng Antwi took part in the meeting.
During the meeting at the Baatsona Divisional Headquarters, C/Supt. Baba Saanid Adamu, Divisional Commander was full of praises for SSO for embarking on such campaign to promote road safety.
“It is comforting to know that there are people who are committed to revive the country because the country has lost its values. A lot of lives are lost on the roads but with effort and discipline, lives lost on the road can be reduced”, C/Supt. Adamu stated.
He assured SSO that his unit would collaborate and support it in educating motorists and other road users. He also appealed to the organisation to make its research findings available to help facilitate its unit’s work. Madam Philomena Larbi, his secretary, took part in the meeting.
The Street Sense visit to the Eastern Regional Commander of Police at the Regional Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service, Koforidua was also fruitful.
Welcoming SSO’s delegation, the Regional Commander, DCOP Akuribah Yaagy urged the organisation to implement decisive measures that will help curb road accidents in Ghana.
DCOP Yaagy proposed stronger stakeholder relationships, extensive research and education for SSO in promoting road safety. ASP Nketia-Yeboah, Public Affairs was also present at the meeting.
The delegation from Street Sense Organisation included Messrs James Owusu-Amoah, Director of Administration; Yao Doe-Tamakloe, Director of Operations; Asafo-Adjei, Director of Research; and Abdul Rahman, Director of IT. Others were Madam Zulai Ibrahim, Executive Director; Rasheed Ibrahim, IT; Ms. Dinah Essilfie and Ms. Vida Tetteh, both Communication Officers; Messrs. William Tetteh and Frank Obeng Wiredu, both Administrative Officers; as well Messrs. Charles Attram and Daniel Ayitey Okaikwei, both Transport Officers.
